The games Cats play when they are away.

You wouldn’t read about it. It’s actually rained in Perth today!! It’s a rare sight seeing water fall from the sky in the west of Australia. We have a day off today, which is spent mostly indoors on the account of the weather. An early morning yoga session and swim have my eyes opened wide for the day ahead. I make time to do a block of study after breakfast before catching up with Sam DeKoning to work through some vision together of our game v Brisbane and his practice game V Collingwood. We both learn off each other, picking...

A hit of golf and a touch of Yoga

Hub life continues on as we awoke today to a cloudless WA morning. Most players and staff are up early as a result of the two-hour time difference between Victoria and Western Australia. The gym is busy with staff getting their day started with a cardio workout. I have committed over this quarantine period to some morning yoga to clear the mind and bend the body into shape for the day’s activities. A big breakfast ensures we begin the day in a good mood, the food so far has been outstanding. Our dietician has done an amazing job in detailing...

THE NEXT LEG - WESTERN AUSTRALIA HERE WE COME

Today we headed out west for the next leg of our road trip. We boarded buses and headed to the Sydney Airport for the five-hour flight to Perth. We would be doing so on a Virgin chartered flight, all GFC players and staff in our travelling party present on board, as well as the umpires that are heading into the hub. The flight was comfortable with lots of spare seats making the trip very different to that we are more accustomed to. Seeing so many planes grounded at the Sydney airport is a sight I hope we don’t see for...

GAME DAY

GAME DAY

Today is gameday, as you read this we are probably in an arm wrestle with the Lions, a battle of the felines in a Thursday night blockbuster. 266 games in and I still get nervous before a game of footy. It would feel unnatural not to. I wake early on gameday and start the day with a big breakfast. Porridge, fruit, toast, eggs and avocado all piled high in my bowl or on my plate. I don’t eat much after this meal as the nerves build throughout the day. When I was younger I would eat as a way to...

Road Trip- Anyone for Apple Crumble?

Road Trip- Anyone for Apple Crumble?

The day before the game is always one I find really exciting. Anticipation and the unknown of the battle ahead blend into something that jolts your body into action. A physiological reaction begins to occur, you can feel your muscles start to store fuel, your senses become more focussed, the mind beings to centralise its thoughts. It’s a process you come to love as you move through your AFL career, you learn to crave the anxiousness and adrenaline rather than fear it. We trained today at a more ‘conventional’ AFL ground, the SCG in preparation of our game there tomorrow...
